Modern automatic transmissions are made from magnesium-aluminum alloy with zinc or silicon, among other materials. Accordingly, vehicle manufacturers have developed special screws to ensure that the individual components are compatible with each other.
In the aftermarket, cheaper iron metal screws are often included in the sets, which looks good at first glance but does not serve the purpose.
When an iron screw is screwed into an aluminum housing, in addition to the corrosive reaction of the different materials, the thread in the gearbox can be destroyed. Aluminum is softer than iron and will yield during assembly.

Converter screw
Another important point is, for example, the converter in the Mercedes-Benz 9G automatic transmission 725.0.
According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the transmission oil must be drained from the converter when changing the transmission oil or flushing the transmission.
To do this, the converter screw must be removed. There is a copper seal and screw lock on the converter screw. This seal is fixed to the screw and can only be replaced together with the screw.
