Electric door locks operate via an electronic control module connected to an actuator in each door. When the driver presses the lock/unlock buttons on the key fob or inside the vehicle, a signal is sent to the control module, which then activates the corresponding electric motor to lock or unlock the door.
Keyless-Go
A more modern version of this system is the “Keyless-Go” system, which allows the vehicle to automatically lock or unlock as you approach or walk away—simply by carrying the car key in your pocket. The door lock assembly consists of the electric lock (A) and the electric latch (B).
At the first sign of the door sticking or getting jammed, take it to the repair shop immediately. There’s a risk that the door won’t open at all. To fix this, the lock would have to be forced open, or the interior trim would have to be laboriously removed.
One of the main causes of this is a faulty motor inside the door lock. The contacts in the motor burn out, preventing a clean flow of current.
