Air suspension
Functionality and installation instructions
Advantages of air suspension
The air suspension in passenger cars, vans, and trucks has many advantages over steel springs or leaf springs.

When used in passenger cars, air springs compensate for hard impacts or bumpy driving on uneven roads or potholes. In station wagons, some of which only have air springs on the rear axle, the vehicle is leveled by level sensors when loaded. The same applies to SUVs and vans. You can find the appropriate sensors in the at autoteile germany range.
Replacement and installation of air springs
The moment when the air springs need to be replaced most often occurs when there is a loss of air. This can be recognized when the vehicle sinks significantly during longer periods of inactivity or no longer reaches its driving level at all. If the leak is not detected in time, the compressor must continuously compensate for the pressure. This leads to increased wear and possible premature failure.
Before removal, the mechatronics engineer must deflate the air spring. This is usually done using the diagnostic device. The process can take several minutes and its completion is indicated by the diagnostic device. Once the spring is empty, the mechatronics engineer can remove it. Air springs are often simply clipped in place, which is very quick and easy – unlike steel springs, which require a spring compressor.

Installing the new air spring is relatively easy. Thanks to the pre-installed or supplied compressed air connections from at autoteile germany, the pressure line can be easily plugged into the connection.
With other suppliers, the connection must first be purchased and then installed. If the connection does need to be installed additionally, our technical team at autoteile germany recommends using special tools to avoid overstretching and crushing the seal.

Once installation is complete, the mechatronics engineer uses a diagnostic device to refill the air spring.
We strongly recommend that air springs, steel springs, and shock absorbers are always replaced in pairs!
